James Ayers had at least 3 wives -- a woman with the surname of Russell, who is probably the Ann Ayers in Asbury Methodist, Mary McKown, whose marriage with James Ayers is the only recorded marriage of his to survive and who probably is the Mary, wife of James Ayers who died in 1841, and then this Mary, whose maiden name was apparently Mary Martin. THIS Mary, by the way, likely died in the Chester County Poorhouse. At least, there is a Mary Ayers who died just a day different from the death date listed on this headstone, who is the correct approximate age. The death certificate of Caroline Shaw, another daughter of James and Mary Ayers, also states that his mother's maiden name was Mary Martin. So the death records of two children of James and Mary Ayers state that their mother's maiden name was Martin, not McKown.
