Alex Pappin was born in Neosho County , Kansas Territory on August 9Th, 1859. The son of Alexander Laforce ( part Osage Indian) and Elizabeth Jane (Blythe) Papin.(part Cherokee Indian) At the time of his birth he had two older sisters, Julia Ann (1854) and Martha Elizabeth (1856). He also had two half siblings. Peter LaForce and Mary Papin. In 1860, his brother John Pappin was born. His two sisters Julia and Mary died young. So Alex and John grew up very close to each other. In 1862, his father Alexander "Laforce" Papin died , in 1863 his mother Elizabeth died. I am unsure who raised the two boys, though it is rumored that they went to a Catholic orphanage after the death of their mother.
It is not known when Alex and John came to Pawhuska. It is known that they both married about 1882 and lived in Pawhuska at that time. Alex first married Amanda "Mandy" Lane. Little Jesse died in 1894 of what was called brain fever.( Brain Fever is also called :Encephalitis, an acute inflammation of the brain, commonly caused by a viral infection.) Mary died 8 Nov 1895, at the age of 25 . Both she and little Jesse share a stone in the Jesse Creek Cemetery, located in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
