Survivors include his wife, the former Betty E. Engleman, six children, Bernice Ballew and her husband Thomas, Ronnie Elder and his wife Barbara, Millie Simon and her husband Tony, Jean Simon and her husband Johnny, Lois Burdine and her husband Johnny, and Mike Elder and his wife Cindy, fourteen grandchildren, two brother's, Jesse Elder of Charlestown and Opal of Arizona.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Elder and a sister Hazel Durbin.
