Mercedes Natalie Davenport was born September 1, 1917, in Shawnee, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma, to Mary Lee Pike and Martin Luther Davenport. The family moved to Oklahoma City where Mercedes attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and graduated from Classen High School in 1935.

Mercedes married Claude J. Allen on June 19, 1938, in El Reno, Canadian County, oklahoma. She was married almost 48 years before Claude's death in 1986. They had three children, Carol, Joe and Judy.

Mercedes worked as a bookkeeper for LB Price Mercantile Company for over 20 years before her retirement at age 65. She was a homemaker all her adult life, and had a passion for cooking. Her delicious meringue pies were especially well known among family and friends alike. She will be remembered also for her quick wit and keen sense of humor.

She was a life-long member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Oklahoma City.

Mercedes passed away January 31, 2011, at age 93, in Oklahoma City. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 5, 2011 in the Chapel at Resurrection Cemetery. She was buried in Resurrection Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma.
