Paul Edward Barrett, 75, of Astoria passed away at St. John's Hospice in Springfield at 3:40 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012.

He was born May 4, 1936, in Canton, Ill., to John and Edith (Coleman) Barrett. He married Rosalie Wilson on Oct. 7, 1956, in Chandlerville.

Mr. Barrett is survived by his wife, Rosalie of Astoria; two sons, John Patrick Barrett of Florida and Michael Ray Barrett of Astoria; one daughter, Paula Taylor of Astoria; two grandchildren, Demi Taylor and Dalton Taylor; and one great-grandson, Aiden Michael Taylor. Also surviving is one sister, Betty Cassel of Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary and Margaret; and one brother, Bob.

Mr. Barrett was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lewistown.

He had served in the U.S. Army and was a guest member of the American Legion in Astoria.

He had worked as a farmer in Fulton County and then for Amex Coal Company in Vermont, Ill., for many years until retirement.

Funeral services will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the services in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or St. John's Hospital Guardian Angels.
