Jimmy was born the fourth pregnancy of Theodore Speaker and his wife Mena Speaker. He was sickly as a baby and had a growth around his intestines and had to have surgery. He didnt hold anything down for a long time until a black woman in the neighborhood told his mama a special tea to fix him and then he started thriving. He married his wife Dorothy in 1963 and had four children. James, Jr, Mena Louise Speaker, Robert Wayne Speaker and Edward Speaker. He worked in one of the plants in Texas City for a while and during his working years was exposed to asbestosis. His last years he lived on disability social security and was waiting for some kind of settlement in an asbestosis case. On August 12 he left the apartment on foot to walk and buy a lotto ticket. He never made it. He was hit and killed by a speeding police car, thrown over 100 feet, dead instantly. That same day a check arrived in their post office box from the asbestosis suit. he never saw it. The family had to get a lawyer because he died without a will.. and it took months before they saw any of the money. He is survived by his four children, wife, one granddaughter, and five or six grandsons, I'm not sure. He was buried on side of his mother Mena Speaker.
