MCCAMEY - Socorro Brown, born in and longtime resident of McCamey,
has died. She was 65. Mrs. Brown died on Monday morning, Aug. 30,
2004, at the caring hands of the Hospice House in Odessa at 5 a.m.,
surrounded by her family. Mrs. Brown had a long bout with rheumatoid
lupus, Mylodisplacia and raynards. She was preceded in death by her
late husband, Apolinar Acosta; her son, Michael Acosta; her parents,
Antonio and Hermerhilda Martinez; and her brothers, Jose, Luis,
Bonefacio and Gilberto Martinez. She is survived by her husband,
James Brown of McCamey; a sister, Irene Aguero of Kerrville; her
daughter, Linda Martinez and husband, Willie Martinez, of McCamey;
four sons, Ruben Acosta and his wife, Alma, Sammy Acosta and his
wife, Sarah, Bobby Acosta and his wife, Teresa Perez, and David
Acosta and his fiancée, Melinda Baiza, all of McCamey; her 23
grandchildren, Vanessa Zuniga and husband, Martin, of Lake McQueeney,
Texas, Albert Martinez and fiancée, Yolanda Alvarez, of Port Isabel,
Texas, Amy Acosta of McCamey, Michael and Kristi Acosta of San
Angelo, Anna Marie Bravo and husband, Trino Bravo, of Willis, Texas,
Paul Acosta and his wife, Rula, of McCamey, Tiffany Acosta of
Montgomery, Texas, Josh, Bret and Sean of McCamey, Texas, Gabriel and
Daniel Acosta of McCamey, Daniel Perez and Eric Ibarra of McCamey,
Krystal and Ryan Acosta of San Antonio, Miranda and Brandon Pineda of
McCamey; her nine great-grandchildren, Alyson and Caleb Zuniga, Devin
Antonio Acosta, Trino Jr., Jasmine, Zachary and Dominic Bravo, Laken
Acosta, and Trevyerre Prince; those she knew to be like parents,
Alicia and Luis Frausto of Hobbs, N.M., and her cousin she knew to be
a sister, Molly Heredia and husband of Hobbs, N.M.; and numerous
nieces and nephews. Grandma will always be remembered for opening her
home to feed scrumptious meals to friends of her children, as well as
feeding her grandchildren at lunch during school days. Her yells to
the Mighty Badgers of Friday nights will be remembered and greatly
missed…"dig-in and hold 'em Mighty Badgers, hold 'em!"….shall her
chants continue to ring in the stands. Many may be breathing a sigh
of relief to know she won't be there to ridicule you for leaving the
game before the band played the alma mater. Her display of love and
affection for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren
will surely be missed by them. May she live in their hearts and
finally rest in peace with her maker, which she truly deserves. Mass
will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the Sacred Heart Catholic
Church in McCamey with Father Nilo Nalugon officiating. Burial will
follow in Resthaven Cemetery.
