Mr. Cole was born June 15, 1881, in Oudega, Friesland, the Netherlands, the son of Gerrit and Teatsche VanderWerf Cole. He came to the United States in April of 1904 and lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan, for two years. He moved to Montana in April of 1906.
He married the former Martha Bos on December 22, 1909, in Manhattan, where he had made his home since moving to Montana. He had been engaged in ranching since his youth. He was a member of the Manhattan Christian Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife and four sons, Garrett, John, Walter and Bernard, all of Manhattan; two brothers, Rhin, living in The Netherlands, and Luke, of Los Angeles; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, in the Manhattan Christian Reformed Church. Burial was in Churchill Cemetery.
