Colleen Marta Roulston Hagensen, 92, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017. Colleen was born at home in Duluth, Minnesota on November 29, 1924, the first child born to Wilfred Robert Roulston and Hilda Ecklund Roulston, she was such a tiny preemie, and the doctor doubted she would survive. Her original birth certificate just says “baby girl.” Luckily, she had a zest for life from the beginning, and with tender loving care from her parents and paternal grandmother, she thrived. A 1943 graduate of Central High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, she attended Duluth Business College. Her first working experiences included clerking in an exclusive ladies’ dress shop, and server at a private dining club before she went to work in the Duluth office of Kellogg Commission Company in 1944, a grain brokerage firm based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She left the company after three years to be a full-time homemaker, but returned in 1960 as the bookkeeper. She finished her career in 1989 as the Duluth Office Manager. On May 20, 1945, she married Arthur Allen Abrahamson while he was on leave from the Army during World War II. They had four children together, Arthur Allen, Jr, Colleen, Carolee and Gleen. In 1991, Colleen married Andrew Hagensen. They had eleven wonderful years travelling and enjoying Masonic activities together until his death in August 2002. Colleen first joined the Order of the Eastern Star, Glen Avon Chapter, in 1954 while she was expecting her third child, Carolee. Coleen loved OES and made many wonderful friendships as she served as starpoint Adah, secretary, organist and Worthy Matron in 1968, 1969, and 1970. One of her greatest accomplishments was being named Grand Organist of the Order of the Eastern Star for the State of Minnesota in 1996. Colleen was also a devoted member of White Shrine, where she served as Secretary for 8 years, chaplain, organist and was Worthy High Priestess in 1976. After she married Andy, she became active in Daughters of the Nile where she served as musician and then Queen in 1995. Colleen was a committed Christian who believed faith in Jesus transcended denominations. For many years she was a member of Bethel Church in Duluth, Minnesota, then later became a member of the congregation at Glen Avon Presbyterian Church, also in Duluth. After she moved to Texas in 1995 she became a member of the First United Methodist Church in Colleyville. Colleen loved music. Accomplished at both the piano and organ, she was sought after to play at many Eastern Star, Shrine and Nile events, as well as at church. Colleen was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Hagensen and her youngest son, Glen Salem. She was survived by her children, Arthur Abrahamson (Carol), Colleen Christianson (Dave), Carolee Bertrand (Ray); four grandchildren, Karl Abrahamson, Justin Jacobson (Rachael), Kirby Jacobson (Angela), Russell Jacobson (Amie); nine great-grandchildren; niece, Randy Jo Pitcarin (Nat); dear friends, Christine Loven and Ray Brockie; and many other friends from her childhood, Eastern Star, Nile, Shrine and the wonderful friends she made while a resident at Parkwood Retirement Community. Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, in the chapel of Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas. Entombment was at Sunrise Memorial Park, in Hermantown, Minnesota.
