Born Jan. 15, 1937 at Bishop, Va., he was a son of the late L.R. Shutt and Marie Shrewsbury Shutt. "Poochie" was loved by all who met him. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. "Poochie" always loved the outdoors and enjoyed helping others. During the summer months, he could be found at Alexander United Methodist Church in Bishop making apple butter along with other church members. He was an honorably discharged US Air Force Veteran, was an electrician in the coal mines, and member of the UMWA Local # 6025 at Bishop, Va. He was a member of Alexander United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Reginald Brian Shutt; two brothers, Bill Shutt and Bob Shutt; two sisters, Dorothy Newton and Juanita Shutt. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Akers Shutt; one son, Danny Ray Shutt and wife, Cindy, of Greensboro, N.C.; one daughter, Elaine Furlong and husband, Jim, of Denver, Colo.; stepdaughter, Tammy Fulford of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters-in-law, Boots Shutt of Bishop, Va., and Corene Shutt of Denver, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Tessa Noah, Timmy Crisp, Dani Blake, Dusty Shutt, Dillon Shutt, Kara Shutt, and Colton Furlong. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Mon., Nov. 24, 2008 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va., with the Rev. Kenny Fields and Ralph Stevenson officiating. Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. Colton Furlong, Dusty Shutt, Dillon Shutt, Mike Noah, Ryan Smith, and Kevin Brooks served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Calvin Anderson, Jim Congrove, Tony Burkett, Charles "Fuzz" Adkins, Sam Daniels, and J. E. King.
