Mrs. Catherine Bower was born in Lewisburg, on the corner of Market and Second streets in the property now owned by Mrs. S.D. Bates, November 10, 1822, was married March 4, 1845 to Hon. Thos. Bower who was born Mar. 4, 1813 and died Nov. 3, 1893. Mrs. Bower died March 19, 1909 at 6 o'clock a.m., aged 86 years, 4 months and 9 days.
Her death was caused by capillary bronchitis. She met an easy death and was conscious almost to the end.
Of all the characters whose death we have been called upon to chronicle during 15 years of editorial service, we can not recall of none whose character was more beautiful, refined and learned, even after having passed the four score years of a busy studious life. As age brought on the inevitable physical infirmities her intellect lost none of its vigor and the sweetness and purity of her life increased to the moment of her death. She was cultured, kind, sincere, fond of literature, poetry and good solid reading. She kept up with the current events of the day by reading the papers and magazines. Her favorite book was the Bible, which she read every day. During the life time of her husband, they together read the Bible through, and the inspiration of his Holy teachings never lost any of its charms for her sweet soul.
She was educated in a private school in Lewisburg and in a Quaker School in Kimberton, Chester County, PA. She was a good reader, generally, could translate French and was well-educated for her day.
She was loved, admired and cherished by all her friends and neighbors and had one of the most beautiful dispositions inspired by the hand of God. Though her voice be stilled, the memory of her ideal life shall ever live with those who knew her as an almost divine example of Christian fortitude.
She was the daugher of Hon. George Kremer and his estimable wife, Catherine Evans, daughter of Captain Frederick Evans, one of the noble and gallant defenders of Fort McHenry in Baltimore. George Kremer was born November 21, 1765 and for three successive terms served in the National House of Representatives and died Sept. 10, 1854. His wife, Catherine Kremer, was born May 13, 1794 and died Sept. 13, 1880, aged 86 years and 4 months.

Ensign George Kremer Bower, who lost his life on the "Oneida" in Yokohama, January 24, 1870 through the collision of that vessel with the British ironclad, "Bombay", aged 21 years, 7 months and 7 days.
Dr. Charles Clement Bower, a prominent physician of the City of Elkhart, Ind.
Florence Gertrude Bower, born March 17, 1853 and died March 20, 1868, while attending Female Institute at Lewisburg, aged 15 years and 6 days.

The funeral took place Tuesday morning. Interment in Middleburg.
