Gerald E. "G.E." Brister - A resident of Springfield, Ill., and formerly of Baton Rouge, he died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was 75, born Dec. 14, 1930.

He was employed with S.J. Groves Construction Co. as a project manager, Sangamo-Baker Construction Co., overseas in Haiti, project manager overseeing road projects and retired from Sussex Contractors in Baton Rouge. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, member of the Ansar Shrine, Springfield, and collected Caterpillar diecast models. He was a newshound and sports nut. He wrote a book and several songs and was an extra in "Dead Men Walking." He was a former member of Operating Engineers local.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Brister, Springfield; sons, Bryan and wife Linda Brister, St. Charles, Mo., and Dwayne and wife Pam, Denver; daughter, Donna and husband Scott Lawrence, Springfield; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by his father and mother, Frank Brister and Edna Hyden Brister; brother, Bobbie Ray Brister; and granddaughter, Christa Nicole Brister.

Visiting at Riverwood Family Funeral Service chapel, Brookhaven, Miss., on Wednesday, June 21, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial in Mount Olive Church of Christ Cemetery, Bogue Chitto, Miss.
