Steven is my best friend Rich Dejean's brother. I was able to meet him about a month before his death. He made me feel so comfortable and welcomed in his home. I feel we both had a connection. Cancer took his life away from us. Steven suffered with bravery and made sure everyone was taken care of. I would like to thank everyone who honors Steven's memorial. He will always be remembered.

Steven was born September 26, 1950 to William and Lenora DeJean. He was proceeded in the death by his Father, William DeJean in 1993. He is survied by his Mom, Lenora DeJean, siblings Ron, Annette, Richard, and Patricia. He had many friends, many of them from Home Depot where he worked the last five years. He also was a cabniet maker prior to working for Home Depot. For fun, Steven loved fishing and golfing. He graduated with the class of 1968 at Aurora Central High.

~ Denise ~ I met Steven almost 35 years ago and the first memory I have of him was how much he loved his music. He had a big reel and huge speakers and played that music very load, but come Sunday morning he would play jazz queitly while he cleaned the house. I remember how he would move around so quickly and his hair back then was longer, very curly and was about to here!!! He was a good friend to me and a great brother in law.

Steven loved all of his aunts and uncles - and the family would like to read part of the letter he recieved from Aunt Karen and Uncle Ed DeJean.---You have been the father for that family for all your nieces and nephews. You have left a lasting impression on those kids through your generosity of love and your caring with them. That will be with them for all of their lives and they will be better people for having had the love that you gave them so generously. You are one tremendously caring person. You moved to be close to your mom when you thought she needed help. You did so much for your entire family. You have always had a real purpose in your life. That is your legacy - your caring and devotion to your family. My life has been truly enriched because of you.

~ Patricia~ wrote------Steven was a beloved brother and Uncle. He very much enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews grow up. He generously agreed to have my family move in with him for 4 months when we moved back from California. Little did he know what he was in for with a family of five! Well, I can't remember which major appliance broke down but they started breaking down. Steven never once complained and truly welcomed us taking over his home. Steven really knew how to make the best Thanksgiving meal ever. Thank you Steven for always being such a generous brother.

~ Mom ~ remembers one Christmas----Steven always gave his nieces and nephews money for Christmas. This time he said "I'm short of money so here is a bottle of Coke and a orange!" Later he suprised them and said he found some money after all and gave them their gifts. Many of those nieces and nephews still have those Coke bottles.

~Richard~ recalls when he and Steve were watching the Rockies in the playoff series before the World Series. The Rockies ended up sweeping the Phillys to get into the World Series and we were so excited!!! Steven went and got the push broom in the closet! Then we were running around sweeping everything--the walls--ceiling--rug-front porch yelling "IT WAS A SWEEP!!! We were so sweep crazy, it was very cool and a very memorable moment!

~Annette~ wrote her fondest memories..... Steven and I lived together for 3 years when we were in our 20's. We had lots of fun together attending hockey games, movies and parties (oh partys). Once when I was sick, Steve as my brother took care of me and in the process made me a hot toddy......in response, I asked for 2 more. In our later years we were still able to have fun together and about 8 years ago traveled to Hawaii with mom.....not as many Hot Toddies, but just as much fun!! Steve was always a very generous person to everyone with both his resources and talents. When I was a single parent he would always find ways to help us with things we needed. And through out our marriage he would donate his time performing beautiful wood work in our home. Steve loved all his nieces and nephews and would always be the generous uncle at Christmas and birthdays......he never forgot them. My husband Garry and Steve always had a special connection and love for each other.....something that even carried over his parents(Carl and Sally)and something that lasted until the very end......Even though he never had a family of his own, he loved having his entile family over for Thanksgiving and would insist on doing the bulk of the cooking. My family and I will always cherish the Christmases we had with Steve. He loved being there and we loved having him there, and we will miss every Christmas forward. Over the past few weeks he told me a number of times what a great life he had. It's very easy to see from an individual that was loved by so many and had the humility to show his love only the way Steve could. I was with Steve when he passed away and I know he had Jesus in his heart.

~ Ron ~ shared a childhood memory. For those of you who knew the family, I outgrew Steve at a early age. One day Steve and I were walking home from St. Therese and there was a bully who went to Kenton Elementry(right across the street)who kept picking on Steve. Brotherly instinct kicked in one day and I LANDED ONE on the big bully and both Steve and I ran home.----------
We had a baseball bet that started 23 years ago between Steve and I. We each picked a team from the 3 divisions of the National league and the American league. At the end of the year the bet turned to the World Series. The wager was a fitted hat from the team that won the Series. Whether by luck or my experience as a player I led the wager by a margin of 15 to 8. Steven and I aways enjoyed the start of the season and picking of our teams. One year; not to long ago, Steve came to the house after I won yet another hat. I had lined up all the hats and then he said "Maybe next year!" Well, Steve, from now on it will be your year and I will contiue purchasing hats to honor our bet and honor your memory. We will all miss you. We love you Big brother...say "Hi" to Dad and give him a hug. We will all be together again someday.

God saw you

God saw you getting tierd

and a cure was not to be.

So He put His arms around you

and whispered "Come with me."

With a tearful eyes we watched you suffer

and saw you fade away.

Although we couldn't bear to lose you,

we could not ask you to stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,

hard-working hands laid to rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us

He only takes the best.
