WYOMING PIONEER DIES; DESCENDANT FROM THE PILGRIMS
Funeral service for Miss Harriet Alden, 87, pioneer resident of Wyoming and a descendant of Plymouth's John Alden, who died Wednesday, Sept. 19, in Denver, was held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the home of her nephew Robert Alden, in Wyoming. Burial was in the Oxford Junction cemetery. Service was directed by Dr. A.S. Nickless, Chicago, and Rev. F.E. Somerville, Wyoming.
Miss Alden was the daughter of W.H. Alden, first schoolteacher in Wyoming. Her mother was the former Emily Williams, also a pioneer of this community. She came to Wyoming from Sterling, Ill., with her parents when two years of age.
Born in 1864
She was born March 24, 1864. Wyoming has been her home since with the exception of the last few years. She has spent her winters with a niece, Miss Ruth Alden, teacher in Denver, but her summers were spent at her home in Wyoming. She returned to Denver for the winter the first week in September.
She was a charter member of the Hawthorne Club, which was organized in 1898. She was also a member of the Methodist church and for many years served as a Sunday school teacher and was also a board member. Her only survivors are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
