Allen, Rev. Philip J., 80, Pastor of St. John Catholic Church, Clonmel, KS, passed from this life to eternal life, Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008. Rosary, 6:00 P.M., Sunday, Sept. 21; Funeral Mass, 10:00 A.M., Monday, Sept. 22, both at Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception. Graveside Service will follow at 1:00 P.M., St. John Catholic Cemetery in Clonmel. Father Allen was born March 13, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri. He decided he would become a priest when he was in second grade and he accomplished that goal in 1958. He attended St. Nicholas Elementary School in St. Louis, and after graduation from eighth grade, began his studies for the priesthood at St. Augustine Seminary in Bay St. Louis, MS. He completed his final year of studies at Immaculate Conception Abbey and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Wichita on May 31, 1958 at Kenrick Seminary. He celebrated his First Mass on June l, 1958 at St. Alphonsus Liguori (Rock) Church in St. Louis. Father served in the parishes of St. Patrick in Kingman, St. Anne, St. Francis of Assisi, Blessed Sacrament, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Christ the King, all in Wichita, St. Anthony in Garden Plain, and in 2002 he was appointed to St. John, Clonmel where he was serving at the time of his death. He also ministered in other varied Chaplain roles. He celebrated his Golden Jubilee at St. John Catholic Church, Clonmel, June 1, 2008 and at St. Elizabeth, Mother of John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. Louis, MO, June 8, 2008. Preceded in death by parents, Eric and Genevieve Allen; brothers, William, Aloysius, and Henry (Heinie) Allen; sisters, Cecilia Elazier, Beatrice Nelson, and Rita Washington. Survivors: brothers, Jerome (Ruth), Francis, and Deacon Charles (Debbie) Allen; sisters, Barbara (John) Williams, all of St. Louis, Mary Dolores Stanton of Los Angeles, CA; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and Church family.
