YAKIMA - Richard (Dick) D. Toner, 82, of Toppenish, Washington, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2009 at Memorial Hospital, Yakima, Washington. He was born on November 13, 1926 to Richard and Lottie Sedore in Detroit, Michigan. In June, 1928 he was adopted and raised by Frank Michael Toner and Ester Pearl Toner in Detroit, Michigan.

Richard Toner married Pauline Marie Thomas on December 11, 1948. Richard, or Dick as most people knew him, served proudly in the United States Navy, during WWII. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Yakima, Washington and a member of the Buena Grange, Buena, Washington. He was a Scout Master and coach for his sons as they were growing up. He married Jeanette Graybill on May 14, 1977 and she passed away in 1999. He was a long time orchardist for Snokist Growers. He worked as an automotive instructor for 27 1/2 years at J. M. Perry Institute in Yakima. He owned and operated NAPA Genuine Auto Parts in Yakima for 9 years. He loved being with his family, working on his old cars, working around the orchard and traveling in his motor home.

Dick is survived by his daughter Sherry Overton (Bob) of Thermopolis, WY, sons Brad Toner (Debbie) of Richland, Scott Toner (Jeri) of Yakima, and Mike Toner (Judy) of Fond Du Lac, WI; 8 grandchildren, April Overton, Justin Toner (Nikki), Joshua Toner, Kellee Toner, Rachel Toner, Michele Toner, Mikal Kulhavy (Keith), and Melissa Ward; 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. His sisters, Sylvia Conroy and June Kimball also survive him.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Ester Toner, his wife Jeanette, his brothers Ellis and Stewart Sedore, and grandson Kenneth Richard Overton.

Viewing will be Friday, November 6, 2009, 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors, 201 North Second Street, Yakima, Washington. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. at Shaw & Sons. Concluding burial, with military honors, will follow at West Hills Memorial Park.
