June 14,1945 Butte Gazette BUTTE YOUNG LADY VICTIM OF INFECTION
MISS MARY AIKEN TAKEN TUE MORNING; FUNERAL RITES TO BE FRI AFTERNOON
Miss Mary Aiken, daughter of Dr and Mrs E M Aiken of Butte passed away at her home Tue after being sick for several weeks.
Mary had been an invalid since childhood, but during recent years her condition had been aggravated by recurrent attacks of rheumatic fever. For several weeks she had been confined to her bed with an attack of the fever, and a complication of these conditions and strepticocia infection had made her condition very critical the past week.
Mary who was born in Niobrara, Aug 28,1918 spent her childhood there and attended the Niobrara schools, moving to Butte with her parents about 7 years ago. She took some work in Butte HS.
For several years she has been in charge of the Butte library and has done stenographic work at various times.
In spite of her physical handicap she was a good stenograhper, and her work was to be envied by others who worked under much more favorable conditions.
Mary was a favorite among the young folks of the community and she was most often seen in the center of such a group. While her physical condition prevented her from taking part in many activities, her interests were greatly varied and she kept herself well posted on the community life as well as the national picture.
Funeral services will be from the Butte Community Church, tomorrow (Fri).
