Born on August 24, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY, Marie was the youngest of four children born to Leonardo and Maria (Matera) Centonze. Her siblings were local residents of Highland and include Rose Olson, John Centonze and Angela Casiero.
On February 27, 1954, she married Saverio (Sal) Arena of Brooklyn, NY at Regina Pacis Catholic Church in Brooklyn.
Much of Marie's childhood was spent with her aunt and uncle, Katie and Leonard D'Arecca, at D'Arecca's Farm in Highland. Marie spent many summers as a young adult in Highland working at her family-owned summer resort, The Maple Crest. After graduating Sarah J. Hale High School, she went on to work in NYC as a seamstress for Lady Ann. Upon returning to Highland, Marie worked at Robins Fruits & Vegetables before joining the Highland Central School District as a cafeteria aide, where she thoroughly enjoyed preparing meals for the children and teachers at all three Highland Schools.
Marie was a devout member of the Altar Rosary Society at St. Augustine Church in Highland. Marie's life was centered around spending time with her immediate and extended family.
She is survived by her loving children, Olivia DellaMonica and Joseph Arena; her grandchildren, Danielle (Kevin) Britt, Dayna Arena and Joseph Arena; as well as her precious great-grandson, Liam Britt.
Marie was predeceased by her husband, Saverio, and son, Leonard Arena.
Calling hours will be Sunday, September 17 from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 38 Main Street in Highland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 18 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Highland. Burial will follow at Lloyd Union Cemetery.
