She was born in Islip, NY on December 9, 1920, to the late Oscar and Marion (Hanford) Doxsee.
Jean enjoyed her childhood growing up near the water. She was always telling stories to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of her wonderful life as a child. She enjoyed doing word jumbles and word searches every morning, followed by a game of Scrabble. Jean loved to be active in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's school and sports activities. She was probably one of their biggest fans.
She attended Rider College, where she met her future husband, John H. Bahret Jr. They were married for 44 years, prior to his passing on June 23, 1984. Together they raised six children.
Left to cherish fond memories are her son, Bruce (Peggy) Bahret; and daughters, Jane (John) Mandia, Jean Bahret, and Nancy Bahret. She was a loving, caring, grandmother (also known as "Nana") to Kathleen (Peter) Tourinho, Michelle Bahret, Kevin (Christine) Bahret, Stephen Bahret, Derek Bahret, Christina Zoccoli, Dana (Eric) Peterson, Jennifer Zoccoli, Nicholas Bahret, Alex Bahret, and Lena Bahret. She was also a loving great-grandmother to Cailin and Ryan Bahret; Cassandra and Christian Tourinho; and EmmaRae and Elijah Bahret. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Joan Bahret; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Jean was predeceased by two sons, David A. Bahret (on March 15, 2016) and John C. Bahret (on March 16, 2017); and one sister, Hope Bulk.
Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, September 17 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park.
