Everett J. Anderson, 85, of Belmond, died on Sunday, January 27, 2002, at his home in Belmond.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 30, at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church near Belmond, with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Interment was in the St. Olaf Cemetery near Belmond.
Music was provided by Carol Severson, organist and Steve and Joleen Rolland, special music. Casket bearers were Ryan Schlichting, David Anderson, Aaron Anderson, Jason Schlichting, Pat Eastman and Kyle Anderson. Honorary casket bearers were Julie Brinzo, Angel Schlichting, Heather Anderson, Lisa Eastman, Jill Hickson and Brittany Anderson. Ushers were Alfred Johnson and Clifford Toft.
Everett, the son of Jess and Anna Cronan Anderson, was born on January 11, 1917 near Livermore. He grew up in the Renwick area, attended country schools and graduated as valedictorian from the Livermore High school in 1934. He then worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Everett was united in marriage to Juen A. Rasmussen on December 23, 1939, in Eagle Grove. They made their home in West Bend, in Hardy, and later at Harcourt, where Everett managed the grain elevator. In 1946, Everett and Juen moved to the Olaf area where he managed the Olaf Elevator. Later they moved to Belmond where they lived the rest of their lives.
Everett was an avid sports fan. He and Juen liked to camp, camping in 49 states. Everett was very involved in the Boy Scouts, receiving many awards including the Silver Beaver. He and Juen received the Lamb Award.
Everett was a member of the St. Olaf Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, church treasurer, usher and trustee. He was a charter member of the board of the Belmond Community Apartments. Everett was a life time member of the Masonic Lodge, and he and Juen were members of the Eastern Star. Everett managed Congregate Meals for a number of years, and he drove the Care Car. In 2001 he was presented the Outstanding Citizen Award from the Belmond Jaycees.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1999; two children in infancy; two sisters; and four brothers.
He is survived by one daughter, Dixie Anderson Miller of Belmond; three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Sharon Anderson of Lubbock, Texas, Dennis and Linda Anderson of South Kingstown, Rhode Island and Douglas and Laurie Anderson of Nevada, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Pint of Eagle Grove and Lois Sheets and her husband, Johnny of Webster City; one brother, Merle Anderson of Clarion; many nieces and nephews.
