Evelyn Arnold, age 88, of Big Hill, passed away Friday, May 8, 2009 in the Terrace Nursing Home.
Evelyn was born in Berea to the late John A. and Grace Lakes Legear. She and her husband owned and operated Arnold's Service Station and Gun Shop for many years; she also retired from the U.S. Forestry Service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Ernest Arnold; three sons, John F. "Frankie" Arnold, James Arnold and Lee Arnold; and one granddaughter, Johanna D. Hancock.
She is survived by: her daughter Sharon (Larry) Thacker of Richmond; a son, Eddie Arnold of Texas; two brothers, Augie (Jo) Friedel of Prescott, Ariz., and Charles Junior (Evelyn) Friedel of Albany, Ind.; one daughter-in-law, Aline Arnold; grandchildren Jayme (David) Hancock Mink, Jill Dawn Casey, Jane Mauro, Thalia (Mark) Broadus and Kevin Thacker; Great-grandchildren Jessica Cope, Jaclyn VanWinkle, Steve VanWinkle, Cady Mauro, Vito Mauro, Kaitlyn Broadus, Kelsey Thacker, Carrie Thacker and Mary Thacker; and great-great-grandchildren Trenton Johnson, Javin Denny and Joanna Denny. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Lakes Funeral Home in Berea with the Rev. Larry Thacker officiating. Burial will follow in the Davis-Witt Cemetery in Rockcastle County. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
