Memorial to Lieutenant Harry Bertram Abadie, 11th Prince Albert's Own Hussars. Son of Major General Henry Richard Abadie, CB, Lieutenant Governor of Jersey and Kate Teesdale Abadie (nee Sandeman). Educated at Winchester College. Gentleman Cadet at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Commissioned into the 11th Hussars Oct 1892. Served with the Chitral Relief Force under Sir Robert Low in 1895 receiving the medal with clasp. Promoted to Lieutenant Sep 1894. Served in the North-West Frontier Campaign of 1897-98 under Sir William Lockhart as Assistant Transport Officer, 2nd Brigade, Tirah Expeditionary Force being mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 5 Apr 1898) and received the medal with two clasps. Served in the 2nd Anglo Boer War in South Africa 1899-1902. Was appointed ADC to Lieutenant General Sir Archibald Hunter in March 1900, and was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 8 Feb 1901, as being "deserving of much praise" during the siege of Ladysmith, when he performed the duties of Staff Officer for Water Supplies. He was awarded the DSO (Edinburgh Gazette 1 Oct 1901) and was again mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 5 Sep 1901). Awarded the Queen's Medal with five clasps. Died of enteric fever (typhoid) at Norval's Pont, Cape Province, South Africa aged 28 years. He is buried in Grave 41 of Colesberg British Military Cemetery, Northern Cape, South Africa.

In ever loving and proud memory of my husband Major General Henry Richard Abadie C.B. formerly Commanding IX Queen's Royald Lancers and late Lt Governor of the Island of Jersey Commandant of the Cavalry Depot Canterbury from 1894 – 1987. Born 25th March 1841 Died 9th May 1915. Also of his four sons who gave their lives for their country. Harry Bertram Abadie D.S.O. Lt XI Prince Albert's Own Hussars died at Norval's Pont S. Africa 23rd Feb 1901 aged 28 years. George Howard Fanshawe Abadie C.M.G. formerly Captain XVI Lancers, First Resident Zaria Nigeria, died at Kano West Africa 11th Feb 1904 aged 30 years. Eustace Henry Egremont Abadie D.S.O. Major IX Queen's Royal Lancers, killed in action at Messines Belgium 31st October 1914 aged 37 years. Richard Nevill Abadie D.S.O. Lt Colonel 2nd Battn King's Royal Rifle Corps killed in action at Nieuport, Belgium 10th July 1917 aged 35 years. Grant them eternal rest and may everlasting light shine on them.
