Kathleen Hicks Hampton, age 85 died Saturday, June 15, 2002. Born July 6, 1916, in Crawford, Texas, she was the fourth of five children born to Fred and Ettoil Hicks. After living in Waco, Dallas, Corpus Christi and Austin, the family moved to San Antonio in 1932. Here she met W.H. "Billy" Hampton and both attended the first class at the new Jefferson High School. They married in 1935 and were together 43 years prior to his death in 1977. She was the consummate wife, mother and sister to her family. A member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, she worked as a volunteer at the Green Door Thrift Shop operated by the Women of St. Luke’s for over 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her mother and father-in-law, Howard and Zilpha Hampton, and one brother, A.E.Gene Hicks. Survivors include her son, Richard W. Hampton of San Antonio; brother and sister-in-law, David Bowden and Geneva Hicks of McAllen; brother Russell Dee Hicks and devoted friend Greta Paris of San Antonio; brother and sister-in-law Jack E. and Hattie Mae Hicks of San Antonio, and numerous nieces and nephews.
