Ruth Vivian Karns was born in Kansas in January of 1896 to George W. Karns (1864-) and Alice E Miller (1870-). By the time she was 21 she had married Edgar Alexander Dalziel (1890-after 1940) and on 3 November 1917 presented him with a son George Teddy Dalziel (1917-living as of 2015).

Edgar Alexander Dalziel was the son of Ira Barker Dalziel (1857-1942, FAG Memorial# 155539889), a veterinary dentist, and his first wife Bella Lyon (1857-1924, FAG Memorial# 138205668).

The 1920s census has Ruth, Edgar and their son, George, living in Wichita, Kansas as a family unit. By the 1930s census a lot has changed. Ruth is living in Haigler, Dundy, Nebraska with son George, a daughter, Yonnie Dalziel, over 3 years old that was born in Nebraska and one of Ruth’s brothers, Garold Karns (1913-1991), but no husband though she lists herself as married. Ruth is making a living as a baker in a local bakery. I was unable to find Edgar Alexander Dalziel in any 1930s census.

By the 1940s census, moves have taken place. Ruth is now living in San Mateo, California with her daughter Yonnie Dalziel. She is listed as widowed and is employed as a sales clerk. Edgar Alexander Dalziel reappears in the census for St Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota as a divorced lodger. This is the last information I have on him.

I have not been able to determine the date or place of death for Ruth, only the burial site.

I believe Yonnie Dalziel’s middle name was Ruth. A Ruth Dalziel married a Walter W. Cox, but I could not trace either after that.

George Teddy Dalziel went to live with his grandfather at some point. I hope to learn more from him soon.
