Joan Brunkhorst, age 60,of Spring Valley, died at her home on Wednesday, August 19, 1987 after a struggle with cancer.

She was born April 11, 1927 in Cady Township, St. Croix County, Wisconsin to Jay and Agnes (McMenamin) Hampton. Joan was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and was a lifelong member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Spring Valley. She was a 1945 graduate of the Spring Valley High School.

On September 10, 1949 Joan was married to Gerald ""Louie" Brunkhorst at St. Matthew's. She worked as a beautician in Spring Valley for several years and also worked for the Spring Valley School for about 5 years. In 1973 she worked for Smead Manufacturing in River Falls where she worked for 14 years.

Preceding her in death was her father, Jay.

Survivors include her husband Gerald (Louie) of Spring Valley, one son Jack of Woodville, four daughters: Marsha Brunkhorst, Kathy, Mrs. Duane Miller, and Denise, Mrs. Ken Witucki, all of Spring Valley and Jeri Brunkhorst of River Falls, her mother Agnes Hampton of Spring Valley, four brothers; John and his wife Myrtle of Woodville, Hugh and his wife Mary, and Bernard and his wife Rita all of Spring Valley and Roger and his wife Fran of Menomonie, four sisters; Emily Hampton, Shirley Hampton and Carol, Mrs. Everett Meyers, all of Spring Valley and Diane, Mrs. Bill Smith, Wilson, Wisconsin, six grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held Thursday at the Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley with memorial services Friday, August 21, 1987 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Spring Valley at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Karl Schmugge officiating. Music was provided by organist Mrs. Carmen Podell with congregational singing. Cremation was at Eau Claire with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery, Spring Valley.
