Raymond E. Blegen

Raymond E. Blegen, age 64, died Wednesday, January 29, at his home in Calumet City, Illinois.

He was born in Gilman Township Pierce County, on September 15, 1921, the son of Alfred and Almdea (Eid) Blegen. Ray was baptized in the Christian faith by Rev. S. Berven at the Gilman Lutheran Church, Spring Valley.

Ray had farmed in Gilman Township for a couple years before entering the service in World War II. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Army of Occupation. He had recently retired from his work as a crane operator at the South Works Steel Company in Chicago. He had lived in the Chicago area for about the past 38 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and one sister Ardeen.

Survivors include 3 brothers and six sisters, Minnerd, Simpsonville, South Carolina, Arnold and Elroy, both of Spring Valley, Mrs. Osborne (Alice) Hurtgen, Mrs. Vernon (Helen) Knutson, and Mrs. Marvin (Esther) Von Haden all of Spring Valley and Mrs. Dallas (Eloise) Adank, Winona, MN, Mrs. Marty (Ardis) Roth, Mauston, WI, and Mrs. Roger (Evaline) Bender, LaCrosse, WI. many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 3, 1986 at 1:30 p.m. at the Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley, with Rev. James Gordon officiating. Bearers were Raymond's nephews, Larry and Kent Hurtgen, Ron Knutson, David Adank, Tim Blegen, Bruce Von Haden. Burial was in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Baldwin.
