UPLAND — Myrtle C. "Myrt" Adkins, 84, died Monday, March 13, 2006, at Pinecrest Hospital in Beckley following a long illness.

Born Feb. 18, 1922, at Cave Ridge, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Adolphus and Mary Nellie Fitzpatrick Harvey.

Ms. Adkins was retired from Summers County Hospital where she was a nursing assistant for many years. She was a member of Upland Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Adolphus Selson "Sonny" Adkins, on Dec. 27, 2003; a grandson, Stephen Glenn Adkins, on June 4, 1979; a sister, Elsie Brandon; and four brothers, Alphie, Arvil, Clifford and Donald Harvey.

Survivors include a son, Glen H. Adkins and wife, Sue, of Hinton; a daughter, Karen Murlene Sears and husband, Gary, of Tug Creek; a brother, Lloyd Harvey and wife, Dorothy, of Nimitz; a sister, Martha Headington of Clare, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Vicky Mills Wykle and husband, Robert, of Hinton, Robbie Adkins and wife, Vicky, of Beckley, Jennifer Michaud and husband, Matt, of Rochester, N.Y., Amber Adkins of Hinton, Richard Sears and wife, Andrea, of Raleigh, N.C., Ben Sears and wife, Leah, of Keatley Springs and Tom Sears and wife, Kari, of Tug Creek; eight great-grandchildren, Valerie Wickline and companion, Robbie Brown, Jesse Wickline, Hannah and Chloe Michaud, Katie and Joshua Sears, and Lacy and Will Sears; and a great-great-grandchild, Bobbie Jean Brown.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 16, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Cecil Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Upland Cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
