When Denvel D. Adams was born on August 15, 1921, in Campbell, Missouri, his father, Omer, was 32 and his mother, Corrinne, was 20. He had two children with one wife. He also had one son and one daughter with Katherine (Kaye) L Adams. He died on July 9, 2010, in San Diego, California, at the age of 88, and was buried there.
Dale enlisted in the U.S. Army on 17 Sep 1938 and served with the 82"d Field Artillery, First Cavalry Division in the South Pacific during World War II until his discharge due to disability on 25 Apr 1944.
He began his professional career with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in 1945 in Detroit, MI after graduating from a special training program at the American University in Washington, D.C. He became DAV's National Adjutant/Chief Executive Dfficer in 1962 and led that organization until his retirement in 1988. During his years as National Adjutant, the DAV experienced a five-fold increase in membership, surpassing one million members during his tenure. He was called from retirement in 1993 to help lead the DAV during an historic restructuring period.
In 1989, in recognition of his distinguished service, the DAV headquarters in Washington, D.C., was named in his honor. This tribute represented the DAV's collective feelings of admiration for a man who had dedicated his life to helping his fellow disabled veterans and their families.
