When Denvel D. Adams was born on August 15, 1921, in Campbell, Missouri, his father, Omer, was 32 and his mother, Corrinne, was 20. He had two children with one wife. He also had one son and one daughter with Katherine (Kaye) L Adams. He died on July 9, 2010, in San Diego, California, at the age of 88, and was buried there.

Dale enlisted in the U.S. Army on 17 Sep 1938 and served with the 82"d Field Artillery, First Cavalry Division in the South Pacific during World War II until his discharge due to disability on 25 Apr 1944.

He began his professional career with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in 1945 in Detroit, MI after graduating from a special training program at the American University in Washington, D.C. He became DAV's National Adjutant/Chief Executive Dfficer in 1962 and led that organization until his retirement in 1988. During his years as National Adjutant, the DAV experienced a five-fold increase in membership, surpassing one million members during his tenure. He was called from retirement in 1993 to help lead the DAV during an historic restructuring period.

In 1989, in recognition of his distinguished service, the DAV headquarters in Washington, D.C., was named in his honor. This tribute represented the DAV's collective feelings of admiration for a man who had dedicated his life to helping his fellow disabled veterans and their families.

This is Dale .....

The treasures I've gathered along lifes way
Were neither silver or gold
I could not place a price on them
They are too precious to be sold

It was that smile and little sigh
The handshakes that were given
Gave me more than money could buy
And they made my life worth living

So when one counts his treasures
I'm richer from the start
Because I have these precious gifts
Stored deep within my heart.

Some of the many condolences:

Dale was a special person in the way he could make someone realize the good in themselves and how to use that talent at it's greatest potential - Dick Marves - Wisconsin

Dale did so much for the Vietnam veterans by giving us employment as NSO's and allowing us to assist other disabled veterans. In short he restored our self respect. I admired Dale's professionalism and zeal for our cause. Quite simply, Dale was my hero and will for ever be Mr. DAV. - Ken D. Wolfe - Florida

Dales passing is a time of great sadness throughout the DAV. He was a good man and a true patriot who dedicated himself to building better lives for America's disabled veterans and their families. HIs proud legacy will always remain at the heart of the DAV. - Gary Weaver - DAVHQ

Dale was a man absolutely without false pride and of the highest personal integrity. In short, he was one of the nicest, most honest, kindest, and strongest men it has been my honor to meet in my lifetime. Thanks to Dale, the DAV became and remains the finest veterans service organization on the planet ...and I and countless other individuals are far better people than we would have been had we not had the privilege of associating with Dale, even briefly, during our lives. - Jamie C. Thompson - South Dakota

Our country has truly lost a great American, with the passing of Dale. He was a National Service Officer through and through always working for the betterment of veterans' lives. He brought the DA V from near catastrophe on more than one occasion and at the same time taking care of our employees. I'll always remember his famous saying of "you take care of DAV and DAV will take care of you'c He practiced that philosophy and I continue to spread the word. He represented the best in all of us and we are the beneficiaries of his legacy. He has made a significant impact on thousands of lives, mine included. I will miss him greatly but know that we are better for the path he walked during his lifetime. - Arthur H. Wilson - National Adjutant
