Wanda Y. (Smus) Adamski, 88, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. Born in Springfield, daughter of the late John and Tekla (Gancarz) Smus, she grew up in Springfield and was a 1946 graduate of Commerce High School and moved to Feeding Hills in 1957. Wanda was an accountant for New England Telephone and later worked for fifteen years at Riverside Park and was the supervisor of the Food and Merchandise Department. She was an avid bowler for the Coffee Rollers in Agawam, a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of its former Rosary Altar Society. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Polish American Club in Feeding Hills, the Polish Women’s Alliance in Springfield, and a poll worker for the Town of Agawam. Her husband, Norbert S. Adamski predeceased her on November 19, 2016. She leaves three sons and their wives, Edwin J. and Charlene Adamski of Agawam, Steven N. and Julie Adamski of Feeding Hills, Paul A. and Theresa Adamski of Westfield, two daughters, Sandra Thornton of Grants Pass, OR, Susan A. and her husband James Grupp of Granby, CT, a brother, Richard Smus of Feeding Hills, three sisters, Statia Staszko of Agawam, Mary Smus and Agnes Bogacz both of Springfield, seven grandchildren, Lauren, Nathan and his fiancé Franca Bonavita, Daniel, Michelle and her husband Patrick Arnott, Bethany, Ariana, Alison, a great-grandson, Quintin Nobby Adamski, several nieces and nephews and her beloved four legged friends, Snuggles, Honey, Joey, Cody, Bella, Willy, Tess, Reana, Jessica and Nobi. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Wanda’s “girls” and staff at The Atrium at Cardinal Lane who cared for her during her stay. In addition, many thanks to the Greater Springfield Senior Services, Inc., for the assistance they provided. The funeral will be Tuesday at 8:30am from the AGAWAM CURRAN-JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street with a Mass in Sacred Heart Church at 9:45. The burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7pm. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472 or to Sacred Heart Church, 1061 Springfield Street, Feeding Hills, MA 01030.
