Nancy was born about 1814 to Joel Meador and Edith Cliborn. Her parents were born in Virginia. After their marriage, they migrated to Campbell County, Tennessee where they raised their family and spent the rest of their lives. Nancy was born about 1814 into a family which would grow to seven sisters and four brothers. These 12 children gave Joel and Edith 69 known grandchildren.

Nancy and Robert Butler were about 19 and 20 years old when they were married in Campbell County on January 20, 1833. They were farmers in Fincastle for many years. They raised eight sons and three daughters. In addition to their children whose memorials have been linked below, the burial locations for the following children are unknown:

James G. was 28 when he enlisted in Co. B, 11th Tennessee Calvary with four of his brothers. They were all captured and imprisoned, paroled and sent to Hospital No. 1. Two of his brothers, John Milton aka John Marion and Henry, died of disease while being treated at the hospital. James mustered out with his company on September 11, 1865 at Knoxville. James was married twice. His first marriage was to Martha St. John. They had two children Louisa, aka Eliza , born in 1862 and married Benjamin Franklin Parrot and William Harvey born in 1866 and married Lillie Parrott.
Martha died sometime after the 1870 census and before January 6, 1872, the date James and Lucinda S. Turner were married in Campbell County. "Lucy" was the daughter of Jessee and Elizabeth Alford Turner. Children from the marriage of James and Lucy were James Clay Butler , Granville Lazarus Butler , Susie J. Hogeboom and Jesse Franklin Butler . The 1880 Campbell County census was the last census where James and his family were enumerated. James applied for a disability pension in September 1881 while still in Campbell County. Soon thereafter James and Susan migrated to Colorado and then on to what would become the state of Oklahoma in 1907. Eliza and William did not go with their father to Oklahoma. They married and raised their families in Campbell County. There is a document, a Declaration, which was submitted by James' oldest son, William Harvey Butler, a lawyer and custodian of Jesse and Susan Butler. He was seeking pension benefits for the two youngest children, Susie and Jesse, children under their father's service in the Civil War. The application stated that Lucinda had died on October 5, 1887 and James on October 8, 1887, but without any indication of cause of death or locations of death and burial. This application was executed in Indian Territory on September 7, 1892.

Amanda M. Butler. Her birth year in census records ranged from 1834 to 1848. On January 3, 1856 she married Charles McGlothlin. He was one of ten children born to Enos and Eliza McGlothlin. Amanda and Charles had three children: Thomas, Hannah and Lucy. Charles enlisted in Co. H 2nd Tennessee Infantry in December 1861. His father and 5 brothers enlisted in the same company. Charles and brothers Jacob, John, Peter and William all died in April 1862 from disease in Flat Lick, Kentucky. Amanda applied for a widow's pension in 1868. At the time of her application only two children were included, Hanna J. and Lucy A. However, Amanda is enumerated in the 1870 census as N. A. McGlothlin with children Hanna and Lucy and a son James. There is a marriage record in Campbell County for Amanda McGlothlin to William Mabory Smith on January 29, 1872. There is a note in her pension file that states "See Guardian claim No. 204.057. Oct. 10, 72." There were only three pages in the copy of her pension file that I received so perhaps Claim No 204.057 can provide additional information. Supposedly all records pertaining to the soldier, widow and children are kept together. Apparently not so in this case.

Washington Harvey Butler. His birth year was approximately 1848. Although I have not located a marriage record, Harvey and
Susan Pierce had one child, Nancy. Washington last appeared with Susan and one-year old Nancy in the 1870 Campbell County census.
