Alva Amrine was born to Mary Ann (Moore) Amrine [1864-1930] and Hezekiah Amrine [1868-1942], when the family lived in Jewell County, Kansas. He was one of ten children living on the family farm when they moved to Vilas, Baca County, Colorado before the 1910 census was taken on Apr 27, 1910. He was still living on the family farm when the 1920 census was taken on Feb.3rd, 1920, but his father was now a stock farmer and his older brother, Milton, had taken over the general farming. Only 7 children now lived in the home. Alva married in 1924, but his wife died prior to 1930 when the U S Census was taken, on Apr 21, 1930. He owned his property in the Vilas area of Baca County and was the Postmaster for the United States Postal Service in that area for a time. His older brother, Rollo Amrine, lived next door with his wife, Crystal, working as a Carpenter. What a difference 10 years makes! When the 1940 Census was taken on Apr 29, 1940, Alva had remarried. His wife was Thera (Brazle) Crim and she was 33 yrs. of age, b.1907 in Texas. They had a common child, June Amrine, age 15 yrs., who had been born in Colorado in 1925. Alva stated he now also had a stepdaughter, Willa Dean Crim, who was 11 yrs. old, having been born in 1929 in Colorado. There were no other children listed on the Census. Also, Alva was no longer working for the Postal Service, but was now an auto mechanic. Alva lived until the month of his 67th birthday, passing away in August, 1969 in Cortez, Montezuma Co., Colorado. He was buried at Cortez Cemetery, Cortez, Montezuma County, Colorado. Thera died in 1976 and was buried with him. They share a headstone together at Cortez Cemetery, Montezuma Co., Colorado.

Note: Alva's place of burial was verified per a phone call placed to the cemetery on Nov 1, 2013. His exact dates of birth and death were verified per the SSDI Index. All other facts were verified per the 1910, 1920, 1930 and 1940 U.S. Censuses, which I have access to via MyHeritage.com. The censuses can also be found on the FamilySearch.org web site.
