James Leander Burkhart was the 9th child born to Coriolanus Domaras "Crill" Burkhart (1821-1861) and Carolina (Goff) Burkhart (1835-1892). He was born on the family's Donation Land Claim of 640 acres South of Albany and North of Brownsville, on Apr 5th, 1868 in the family's home. His parents would have four more children, for a total of thirteen. James was raised on the family's farm and would help his parents after school and studies. His middle name was Leander, after his uncle Leander Columbus Burkhart (1823-1875). James did not live past his 17th year of life. He died on Jul 26th, 1885 and was buried with his father and six brothers and sisters at Riverside Cemetery in Albany, Linn County, Oregon, while his widowed mother and surviving Loved Ones mourned his loss. May he Rest in Peace with his brothers and sisters who went before him, and those who followed.
