"Doc" was a son of John Calvin and Martha Marie (Altic) Aitkens. He was crippled from birth and after the death of his mother, in Arkansas, he moved to Indianapolis to be with his sister Jessie. The last years of his life, were spent at the Marion County Home: Nursing Home (Central State Hospital). While smoking, he caught his clothing on fire and died later from thermal burns to his skin.

He never married, and had to register for the draft, even though he was unable to serve. WW II
