Lynes was born to Albert Allen and Ruth Gentner. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1941 and continued his education at Colorado School of Mines. He married Iris F. Scott on March 13, 1943 in Hernando, Mississippi. Lynes enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November 1942, serving as an Aviation Machinist Mate until his honorable discharge in December 1945. Lynes worked as an A&P Licensed Airline Mechanic with United Airlies for 32 years prior to his retirement in 1984. He had lived in Brighton since 1929 and was living in the same house that he purchased in 1955. Lynes was a member of Loves Foundation Church and Brighton Volunteer Fire Department, and had been on State Championship Fire Teams. Lynes could fix anything and he loved working with his hands.

Lynes was survived by his children, Cecilia Allen of Lanesboro, MN, Bill (Kathy) Allen, of Greeley, Gini (Alan) Hale of Brighton and Bob (Sally) Allen of Brush; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded by both of his parents, brothers Albert and Marvin, and by his wife. Funeral Services held July 10 at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home Brighton.
