Killed By a Woman
A terrible tragedy was enacted at Livingston Monday evening by which a gambler named Jacob Albright, who was formerly leader of the Fort Keogh band, lost his life. The particulars are as follows: That morning Bertha King, with whom Albright had been on friendly terms, came up from Miles City and went to his room over P. W. McDonell's saloon. In the afternoon, Albright, the girl and Kid Talbott were in the room when a loud report rang out in the building. A moment later Talbott rushed to the room below, saying that Albright had been shot. Marshall Mitchell rushed up and arrested the woman, who was still in bed, while Albright lay on the floor with a bullet hole through his head. On the way to jail the girl said she took a gun out of her valise. Albright wanted it and in the struggle that ensued for the possession of it, the weapon was discharged. Medical aid was summoned but nothing could be done, and at 7:30 Albright breathed his last.
Talbott claims that the shooting was accidental. A prominent officer, however, informed the correspondent of the Helena Independent that Talbott admitted to him immediately after the shooting that the woman intended to kill Albright.
Albright has a sister living in Pennsylvania, who has been informed of his death. The woman who did the shooting is the one J. R. Reardon attempted to throw into the river at Livingston last summer.
