Mary Simonis was born, Maria Hasling in Germany in 1860 to Anton Hasling & Margerethe Deiderich. Following the deaths of each of her 5 siblings over the span of her early years, little Maria's mother, too, passed away, leaving only Maria and her father. Anton soon found a new wife, Maria Jax, and togher they had a son (Johannes Hasling). The couple and their 2 children, Maria age 11, and Johannes (John) age 3, then immigrated from Germany to America in the year 1871. Maria's father, Anton Hasling either died enroute or sometime soon after, leaving her an orphan. She was raised with her brother by her stepmother who remarried upon setting in Cold Springs, Stearns county, MN (Maria Jax Hasling FISHBACH). The Fishbach's ran a local hotel.

Maria married Jacob Johannes Simonis in 1879. They raised a large family and farmed in Eden Valley, Stearns County, Minnesota and later moved to Dickinson, ND.

They had 12 children that I know of (including 2 sets of twins). There firstborn child, a daughter, was my great grandmother, Catharina Simonis (Katy Thielen).

Maria Simonis died in 1922 in Dickinson, ND. of typhoid fever.
