Clarence David Brooner went to be with the Lord on Sunday, at home with his family.

He served in the U.S. Navy from Dec. 17, 1941 through Sept. 23, 1943. He served in the Great Lake area on board the USS Garfield, the USS Fanning, the USS Midway and the USS Detroit.

He was wounded during the raid on Pearl Harbor and taken to the hospital.

He was a charter member of Chapter No. 9 of the Disabled American Veterans, where he was commander for seven years.

He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1320 of Sapulpa and a DAV volunteer at the VA hospital for 18 years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, two brothers, and a daughter, Elsie Marie Thomas of Lucerene, Calif. She passed away May 25, 2002.

He is survived by his wife of 56 and a half years, Geneva Brooner of Sapulpa, his children and their spouses, Harrel and Carol Brooner of Siloam Springs, Ark., Clyde and Dee Brooner of Bowden and Caroleta and Jim Simmons of Cahohia, Ill.,

15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a brother, Bill Brooner of Sapulpa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Lowe officiating.

Serving as casketbearers will be Edward Nickles, Jim Simmons, John Bales, Jerry Mayfield, J.E. Williams and C.J. Haney.
