Fern Augusta Carney was born December 15, 1913 at Walnut, Crawford, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest M. and Ruby Fern White Schulz. She died October 18, 2011 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence, Kansas.

She grew up in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence Oread High School in 1930 when children walked to school. Her walk one way was equal to 36 holes on a golf course.

Fern married Jesse James Carney on May 3 1930 in Topeka. She was a floral designer for both Owens Flower shop and Bill Nye in Lawrence for 40 years. She and Jesse operated Duck's Restaurant in the 1950's and a Pillsbury Feed Store, both in Lawrence. Plus, they operated a small farm in Jefferson County for many years.

She is survived by her two daughters and two sons. Fern will be missed by her loving family and many friends.
