Pvt William L. Money was a paratrooper in C Battery 376th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion 82nd Airborne Division. During the night of 11 July 1943 he (and others from his unit) were in a C-47 transport planes, which was shot down by "friendly fire". The airplane crashed into a swamp at Pantano D'Arcia in southern Sicily. All on board were killed. Pvt Money was buried in the GELA Cemetery in grave G-73-874.
Over 1,200 men and women were buried in the GELA Cemetery between July 1943-1947. After the war his remains were repatriated and buried in the Magnolia Cemetery in Andalusia in Alabama.
