Mrs. Sarah Hunter, aged 79, a true friend and loving mother, passed away at the home of her sister, Mrs. Mary Rine, of New Alexander, Ohio, on the morning of November 21, 1918 at 5:35 a.m. after nearly three weeks illness following a fall which left her with a fractured hip. About a week before her death plural pneumonia set in. This was followed on last Wednesday by a stroke of paralysis after which she lingered only a few days. Mrs. Hunter was the daughter of Charles and Nancy McDevitt and was born in La Grange, now Brilliant, on May 24, 1839. My records have she was born on May 5, 1839. She was married to Thomas B. Lisle on the last night of 1860. To this union was born one child Benton Lisle, Jr. who died at the age of 10 months and 23 days. Mr. Lisle died 1865, leaving her a widow. For four years she worked at the tailoring trade and in 1869 she was married to Campbell Hunter. To this union was born one child Jessie Hunter Hobson, who survives with three grandchildren. Mr. Hunter died in 1886, and Mrs. Hunter and her daughter remained on their farm for six years at the expiration of which time they went to live in Alliance, Ohio, the daughter being then married. Since then she had made her home with her daughter but spent most of the summer months with her sisters and other relatives mostly in Jefferson County. Besides her daughter and grandchildren, she is survived by the following brothers and sisters; Mr. Henry McDevitt of this city and Mrs. Mary Rine and Mrs. A.N. Fell both of New Alexandria. She had been a member of the M.P. church from early girlhood. Hers has been a long and useful life and she will be sadly missed by all her relatives and friends. The funeral was held last Saturday at one p.m. at the home of her sister, Mrs. Mary Rine, of New Alexandria. Interment was made in Smithfield Cemetery beside the body of her husband Campbell Hunter. Steubenville Herald Star ( Steubenville, Ohio ) - November 25, 1918. Sarah was my Grand Aunt. A big Thank You to Mal for the information on Sarah. I appreciate it so much.
