Edna M. Abbey, 88, of Alcester, SD, and formerly of Hawarden, IA, died Wednesday, May 8, 1991 at Morningside Manor in Alcester.
Services were held on Saturday, May 11, 1991 at United Church of Christ in Alcester, the Reverend Ron Nuss-Warren officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden under the direction of the Wass Funeral Home in Alcester.
Mrs. Abbey was born March 2, 1903, in Aurelia, IA, the daughter of Bernard and Mata (Miller) Stief, and moved with her family to Sioux County, IA at an early age. She received her education in the rural schools. On January 5, 1921, she married Dale Abbey in Hawarden; the couple lived in the Hawarden area and started farming in 1933. She moved into Hawarden shortly after his death in June, 1969. In August 1989, she moved to Morningside Village Apartments in Alcester and entered Morningside Manor in February 1991. Mrs. Abbey was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Hawarden.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Dolores of Grand Island, NE; two daughters and sons-in-law, Arlene and Malcom Kratchovil of Alcester and Carol and Donald Faulhaber of Omaha, NE; a daughter-in-law, Darlene Abbey of Hawarden; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mabel Anderson of Hawarden and Esther Soost and Florence Soost, both of Sioux Falls, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; a son, Orland; two brothers; and four sisters
