Alice Gertrude Ainsworth

November 29, 1920 - February 4, 2017

Alice Gertrude Cade Ainsworth passed away in Georgetown, Tx on Feb. 4, 2017, at age 96. She was born in Dallas, Tx on Nov. 29, 1920 to Albert and Susie Cade, and grew up in a family of ministers and educators. Her love of theatre began with an inspirational teacher who cast her in an elementary school production, and she spent her career bringing that spark to her students. Alice received a Bachelor's degree in Literature from Southwestern University and a Master's degree in Theatre from The University of Denver. Her teaching career spanned over 30 years, and included all levels and ages.

While at Southwestern, she met Ford Ainsworth, and a lifelong partnership was begun. After the intervention of World War 2, Ford returned from the Philippines safely and they eventually married in 1951. Soon after, they moved to Kerrville, Tx where they spent 20 years at Schreiner University, raising two sons and living on campus. For 17 of those years, Alice taught in the neighboring community of Bandera, where her 2nd and 3rd grade Christmas Pageants are still remembered. In 1974, they returned to Georgetown, continuing to teach in Round Rock ISD. Wherever Ford and Alice went, they brought theatre with them, spearheading school and community based productions, and inspiring young people to learn and express themselves in creative ways.

Ford preceded Alice in death in 1988, and she continued to live in Georgetown, where she maintained connections with Southwestern, even swimming in the SU aquatic facility until the age of 80. She lived independently until the age of 88, when a broken hip slowed her down, and she took up residence at Brookdale Georgetown.

Alice is survived by two sons, Albert and David(Carolyn) Ainsworth. The family wishes to thank the Brookdale staff for all of their kindness, care, and support over the years that Alice lived there. They provided a loving environment and helped us through both celebrations and hardships, demonstrating the true meaning of "family."

Alice touched many lives, and inspired us all to do better. Her funeral service will be held in Georgetown at First United Methodist Church on Sat., Feb. 18th, at 1:00 P.M. with a visitation on Friday, Feb. 17th at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Graveside services were at 3:30 P.M. on Sat. at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Georgetown, Tx.
