Born September 22, 1949, in Washington, D.C. to William Charles Austin and Marilyn Quigley Austin, Bob was a 1967 graduate of Fairfax High School in Fairfax, Virginia and attended Clemson University where he graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Textile Engineering. Upon graduation, Bob joined the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant where he earned his pilot’s license and flew C130 planes until 1978 when he was hired by Delta Airlines. Bob loved flying and continued to pilot several different aircrafts until he retired 36 years later as a Boeing 777 Captain.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sue Austin and their two daughters. He is also survived by his mother Marilyn Austin, his brother; and two nephews. Bob also leaves behind many who loved him from his wife’s family in Taiwan. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Lt. Colonel William “Bill” Austin. Bob was blessed with 5 grandchildren who were a very important part of his life. Known affectionately to them as “Pa”, Bob leaves behind a legacy of love. Bob was a member of Denton Bible Church and loved The Lord with all his heart (Proverbs 3:5) and his faith in Jesus Christ was the driving force behind his strength and character.
