A native of Marcellus, Mrs. Greene resided most of her life in Syracuse. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, in 1961. Mildred and Albert's family included four daughters, two sons, 18 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Greene was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church and an honorary member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the Federation of Syracuse Women's Clubs.
Mildred grew up in Tyler Hollow,an area in the country south of Marcellus. She was one of four surviving daughters of Augustus Seymour and his wife, Rosebell Bessey Seymour. She attended, with her sisters, the Tyler Hollow School nearby on a hill, all traces of which are now gone.
When a young lady, she went to Cortland, N.Y. to work for a time in the Gillette Skirt Factory. Here, she worked with both Chester Gillette and Grace Brown. She was working there when the well-known tragedy of the murder of Grace Brown by Chester took place in 1906 in the Adirondacks. The murder trial was a sensation in its day. It must have been a very harrowing time for Chester and Grace's co-workers and friends.Mildred spoke of it for many years afterwards to her family.
In time, she met her future husband, Albert Greene, and they married on June 25, 1915. They had a wonderful family of sons and daughters. My Great-Aunt Mildred was a lovely person who retained a great sense of humor and dignity, always. She is missed.
