Virgil Starks and his wife Kate we're attacked by an unknown serial killer known as the Phantom Killer at their house on the night of May 3rd, 1946. The assailant shot Virgil twice through the front window of the house killing him. The Phantom also shot Kate twice but she managed to escape the house and get help from a neighbor. The Phantom Killer was never caught. Virgil was 36 years old.
