Gladys Anderson died Jan. 10, 2004 at the Cherry County Hospital in Valentine at the age of 98 years, 1 month and 23 days.

Services were Tuesday, Jan. 13 at the Presbyterian Church in Valentine at 2 p.m. The Rev. Steve Frazior officiated. Burial followed at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gladys' grandsons Dean, Dick, Don and Dan Churchill, Andrew Berke and great grandson Maverick Churchill.

Gladys Anderson was born in a sod house four miles south of Mason City to Herman and Minnie (Hiser) Holm on Nov. 18, 1905 She lived in the sod house until the age of four when her parents built the home where she grew up.

She attended Mason City High School graduating in three years. She then took Normal training and this allowed her to teach school the next fall. She did this for 12 years and attended summer school in Kearney and Chadron receiving her degree in 1965.

She was united in marriage to Graydon Anderson in 1933. They made their home in Purdum where daughters Janet and Joyce were born. The family later moved to a ranch near Douglas, Wyo. and several years later purchased a ranch near Valentine where she lived the rest of her life.

Anderson taught school for many years at Ballard Marsh and Goose Creek and taught sixth grade at Valentine Elementary moving into town during the winter months while her daughters attended High School.

She was a member of the local Brownlee Ladies Club, Cowbells, Teachers' Organizations and was very active in the Presbyterian Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband in 1972, a sister Lavea (Bert) Philpot and two brothers Ray (Marie) Holm and Hardy (Bertha) Holm.
