Fred died after major surgery in Los Angeles. He had not been able to walk for about eight year after becoming ill while attending San Diego High School. He spent most of his time in a wheelchair although walking a little on crutches. In the hope of enabling him to walk he had one surgery which was successful but died after the second surgery.
