Rufus Reese Bly Jr. died July 3, 2006, at Sentara Bayside Hospital. Mr. Bly was born April 21, 1937, the son of the late Rufus Reese Bly Sr. and Lillie Mae Bly. A longtime resident of Norfolk, Mr. Bly graduated from Crestwood High School, Norfolk County, in 1956 and attended Norfolk State College (now University) from 1956 to 1958. From 1959 to 1961, he served in the U.S. Army. Upon returning to Norfolk, he worked as a brick mason for 30 years in the Hampton Roads area. He is survived by his children, Rufus R. Bly III, Timothy Maurice Bly, Sheila Ann Jones, Antonio Tyrone Bly, Dwayne Clinton Bly, Cheryl Lynette Bly and Denise Bly; his grandchildren, Cecilia Annette Bly, Telicia Lecresha Jones, Antonio Malik Tynes, Antoine Jamaal Massdin, Emanuel Joshua Fires and Briana Marie Jones; his four sisters, Virginia Anderson, Irene Coefield, Marion Butts and Gloria Bright; three brothers, Albert Bly, George Bly and Henry Bly; and a host of nieces and nephews. Rufus's body was cremated.
