Pioneering educator & professor of science education at the C.W.Post Campus of Long Island University from 1969 to 1991. Born to a Syrian-Kurdish family, the family fled Turkey after the Ottoman Empire collapsed. She grew up in Syria & Iraq, and attended boarding schools in Lebanon. She graduated from the American University of Beirut in 1940 (rare for a woman in those days). She introduced innovative methods of science instruction such as science fairs & using everyday materials in science experiments. She received numerous awards and oversaw several educational organizations. She was an ardent feminist who was of the muslim faith (unique, huh ?). Personally, she was a lady with a great heart, and wasn't afraid to speak her mind when the need arose.
