The 2nd born son of Herbert & Mildred Kearns, he grew up in Hingham, Massachusetts. He graduated from Hingham High School in 1940 & enlisted in the Royal Candian Air Force. He went through the University of Toronto to become a military instructor pilot. When the U.S. entered WWII, Charles transferred into the U.S. Army Air Force. He was killed in action while flying with a student pilot.
